In the French mountains, and in the Vosges massif in particular, winter is a season of contrasts: crisp mountain air and warm fireplace, gourmet indulgence and extreme sports. See you there?

Leave the ski trails behind. Forget the ski lifts. When you’re snowkiting, you go back to the top whenever you want, just ride the wind. Your first lessons will be without skis, but you had better be a good skier to carry on.

Hurtle down

At the Acropark du ballon d’Alsace, you simply must try out a first for France: a 900m motorised zip line open to all (it’s even suitable for persons with reduced mobility).

Choose your own adventure

In La Schlucht, a ski resort, we know how to enjoy the bracing winter wind in our hair. All wrapped up with only your nose peeking through, all that’s left is to choose your chariot: snowmobile or dogsled?

Track wild beasts

Kitted out with snowshoes or just in walking boots, head off on the trail of the extremely rare Vosges lynx. There were only three of them back in 2016, when they were reintroduced into the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park. But the longer they’re out there, the more chance you have of finding them.

Hunger melts away

First, one bubble appears. Then another. And then it all happens very quickly: a beautiful golden crust forms on the surface of your cheese, you quickly put it on your potatoes, and voilà! About time! The season’s first raclette is here.

Reveal your true nature

A night at the Fuste du Trappeur means dinner by the wood-burning stove, a hot tub on the terrace, and waking up to be greeted by stags, foxes, and roe deer... This secret little refuge will awaken the trapper within you.
