Canyoning and kayaking in the Gorges du Verdon

Just two hours by road from Marseille, the Gorges du Verdon Regional Nature Park (External link) boasts a landscape unique in France, plus colourful traditional villages and remarkable flora and fauna. The Verdon Gorge river canyon is often considered one of the most beautiful in Europe and is the perfect destination for those who enjoy climbing, hiking or white-water activities. The most well-known pursuit here is canyoning – a fun, physical activity that introduces visitors to some of the wildest sections of the gorge. There are descent routes to suit all abilities – jump, slide, swim and abseil your way from one crystal clear emerald pool to the next. Kayaking is another great way of admiring the landscape in all its glory from the Verdon river itself. For those interested in more cultural pursuits, within the boundaries of the park you can visit over 600 historic buildings spread across Verdon’s 45 villages.
