Paris’ famous river is the lifeblood of the city, snaking its way past its finest museums and monuments, beneath 32 bridges, past strategically-placed benches and majestic rows of weeping willows. One of the loveliest ways to admire the landmarks is from the water – so make a boat trip one of your must-dos on your visit this summer. A plethora of boat types – barges, sightseeing river boats known as bateaux mouches, smaller pataches, paddle boats or small yachts – glide back and forth along the Seine. Hour-long cruises are usually held in French and English and headsets offer other translations too, so you can learn Parisian history while soaking up the sights. And to really push the boat out (excuse the pun), why not treat yourself to lunch or dinner while cruising?
