At 2300m, Val Thorens is Europe’s highest ski resort, at the top of the Three Valleys: the world’s biggest skiable area. But Val Thorens has more to offer than pristine powder. No matter the season, it is the perfect place for an active holiday with family or friends, whether it’s high altitude yoga, mountain biking, or rail luge.
Don’t miss the alpine meadows in summer and the VT Summit Games every August!
DINNER IS SERVED!
Abondance, reblochon, beaufort... With 8 AOP and IGP, the cheeses of Savoie count amongst the very best Savoie produce. To get a taste for them, follow the Cheese Road: with 74 stops, this route takes you to meet the people who make the milk, high mountain cattle farmers, and cheesemakers and agers.
GO CULTURAL
While Paris prepares to host the Olympic Games in 2024, Albertville’s Winter Olympics Museum is a must-see. Exhibitions, films, and photos bring the history of the Winter Olympics in Savoie to life (Chamonix in 1924, Grenoble in 1968, and Albertville in 1992).
GET ACTIVE
Crossing the Vanoise glaciers is one of France’s most iconic hiking trails. However, more accessible outings are available in the company of a mountain guide. The glacier walks from Pointe de la Réchasse of the Grande Casse Pass offer a gentle introduction to glacier travel.
TOUR TRIVIA
In 1994, the Tour made the climb to Val Thorens for the very first time. It was an exhausting climb, with 68 racers being picked up after exceeding the race deadline. At the end of this memorable stage, it was Colombia’s Nelson Rodriguez who stood atop the podium.
EXPERIENCE
The VT Summit Games will be held in Val Thorens from 5 to 11 August 2019. For this, the fourth annual event, 6 sporting experiences are open to all: trail biking, walking and running, all in the superb natural setting between the Grand Fond, Lou Lake, or the Retenue de la Moutière.
