Spend Christmas in Paris with a group of friends

From the friendly atmosphere of the Christmas markets to the wild New Year evenings, the end of year comes in with a bang in Paris. At holiday time, let yourself be carried by the magic of Paris and celebrate the New Year as it should be. Ready for an unforgettable Christmas with your closest and dearest?
Get there with National Express from £35 from 19th Dec until 6th Jan.
12pm - Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Meet at the Saint-Germain-des-Prés Christmas market and dive into the atmosphere. The 25 or so chalets of this smaller market border Boulevard Saint-Germain, next to the famous church, and specialise in luxury items such as fine leather pocketbooks, jewellery, French food specialities and handcrafted items. It’s also a good place to buy scented candles and indulgent liqueur chocolates.

2pm - Wine tasting

Share an educational moment at the Caves du Louvre (Rue de l'Arbre Sec) for an introduction to wine. Established by Louis XV’s sommelier, this former royal wine cellar is a unique venue in central Paris, fully renovated for two years and comprising a winery, lab, bottling room and several tasting spaces.

3pm - Shopping in the Marais

Do some shopping at the 160-year-old BHV Marais flagship store, where there’s something to suit every taste. This iconic department store focuses on creative fashion, homeware and fine food products. Wait for the others while sipping a cocktail and enjoying the view from Perchoir on the roof. Over Christmas, the Perchoir Marais has a ‘winter garden’ feel with wooden decor and hanging lightbulbs to create a truly special atmosphere.

5pm - Funfair at La Villette

Get your adrenaline rush at France’s largest funfair at La Villette, called ‘Holidays’.
Held on Place de la Fontaine aux Lions from 8 December until 6 January 2019, children and adults alike can enjoy all kinds of rides and attractions – the Booster, a merry-go-round, a rollercoaster, a ghost train, a rifle range, wooden horses and a sky swing.

7pm - Illuminations at Bercy Village

Stroll around Bercy Village to enjoy the lights and break for a meal. This year, Bercy has entrusted its Christmas illuminations to artist Laurent Sanguinetti, who has worked with Hermès and Philippe Starck to create an enchanted forest with 28 luminous sculptures. Imaginary creatures and an enchanted castle emerge and fade in this sparkling play of lights, making for a truly magical walk inside the Cour Saint-Emilion.

10.30pm - Evening cruise

Enjoy a boozy evening on board a riverboat at Quai de la Gare – and party into the early hours! You’ll admire the City of Light’s fabulous monuments illuminated against the night sky as you glide down the Seine.
