Grenoble: what to do, what to see...

It is impossible to disassociate Grenoble from the Alps; the Mountain Film Festival, skiing just 30 minutes from the city centre or views of Mont Blanc from France’s oldest cable car! In spite of this, the city’s flat terrain makes it perfect to explore by bike, along the riverbanks, through parks and gardens or past the street art that adorns the city. It fits in perfectly with Grenoble’s status as a sustainable city, boasting the very first urban Eco-district in the country.
WHAT TO SEE

• A bird’s eye view of Grenoble and Mont-Blanc on the first urban cable car in France
• Frescoes, collages, stencil work, canvas art, anamorphoses and natural street art in the city
• The first urban eco-district created in France
• The Musée de Grenoble modern art museum featuring Picasso, Matisse, Gauguin…
• The Domain de Vizille museum dedicated to the French Revolution

WHAT TO DO

• The urban via ferrata trail on the slopes of the Bastille
• The legendary thermal baths of Uriage in their lush setting
• The spectacle offered by the Mountain Film Festival
• Grenoble by (yellow) bike along the river banks and in parks and gardens
• Skiing in Le-Sappey-en Chartreuse just 30 minutes from the city-centre

• Vercors-Sassenage, a blue-veined cow’s milk cheese
• Three varieties of Grenoble walnuts: Franquette, Mayette and Parisienne
• Craft beers brewed by Brasserie Artisanale du Dauphiné or Brasserie des Cuves

WHAT TO BRING BACK

• Walnut specialties like sweets, cake, oil or wine
• Grenoble Gloves decorated with city icons and made locally
