La Grande Motte

La Grande Motte, Europe's greenest seaside resort

La Grande Motte has a truly unique location at the gateway of the Camargue National Park in Provence. It boasts an average of over 300 days of sunshine per year, affording it an ideal climate right in the heart of the Mediterranean coastline.

A city that's centered around architecture and water sports, La Grande Motte delights the water sport, leisure and design enthusiasts, as well as those who just love laying around on the beach. All visitors can discover and enjoy boating, sailing or water skiing on the sea, or on Lake Ponant, thanks to the many activities provided by the Nautical Center.

Need a break from the water? Then take a stroll through Europe’s greenest seaside resort, which is now a "20th Century Heritage" site, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. The many symbols and pieces of artwork found throughout the town combine with its buildings and parks, to create a veritable outdoor museum.

Guided visits

The tourist office organizes 6 pedestrian visits of the city from April until September. Discover the architecture, urban planning, gardens, and kilometers of passageways in the shade, as well as the plants that grow on the sand dunes.

Chief architect Jean Balladur organized areas for plants to grow, attempting to change the city into a garden, sowing symbols that would "speak to both the heart and soul". You will discover a unique, singular city on a personal scale. After your first visit, you will most certainly see the town in a new light.
