Think you’ve missed all the fun for 2018? Think again. The Côte d’Azur has an exciting autumn/winter line-up of festivals and sporting events, drawing visitors from across the globe.
Sporting fixtures continue well into the autumn too. One notable event is Cannes’ Royal Regatta (22-29 September 2018), when an armada of classic boats race against the spectacular backdrop of the Îles de Lérins. For sailing pros this one’s a must-see – but it’s also just a way of soaking up Cannes’ famous festival atmosphere while the sea is still warm and the rosé’s still chilled.
Hot on the Regatta’s heels is the Roc d’Azur mountain bike adventure in Fréjus (10-14 October), comprising a trade show and a dozen races further along the coast – followed by the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon (4 November), for which runners wend their way along a spectacular 42km course between palm trees and the sea.
Calling all jazz fans! There’s an autumn add-on to the renowned Jazz à Juan festival in Antibes-Juan-les-Pins. ‘JAMMIN’ JUAN’ will take place from 25-27 October, and see around 100 musicians unite for 3 days of jazz – including the likes of Hugh Coltman, Sly Johnson and Jean-Michel Bernard. An exhibition at Nice’s Musée Masséna, ‘Jazzin’ Nice: 70 Years in Love with Jazz’, is on until 15 October.
Fancy the cabaret? If you’re visiting the Côte d’Azur just after Christmas, world-famous Crazy Horse is putting on its ‘Forever CRAZY’ show at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. There will be four performances from 29 December 2018 to 1 January 2019.
