The old part of the town is mainly pedestrianised and many of the sites of interest are near each other, so you can do it all on foot. Flanked by 17 towers, Angers’ imposing château (considered part of the Loire Valley châteaux) is a focal point from which you can admire the magnificent view of the Maine River, and wander around beautiful gardens. The château is famous for its 14th-century religious artwork, in particular Le Tenture de l’Apocalypse tapestry, which is a staggering 103m long.
