Sleep in a Château: Top 5 Loire Valley Château-Hotels

Where better to declare your love than at a chateau in the Loire Valley? presents its selection of romantic hotels to retreat to after visiting Chambord, Chaumont-sur-Loire or Cheverny.

1. Le Relais de Chambord

There’s little more romantic than spending the night with a view of one of the Loire Valley’s most enchanting chateaux. Comfortably ensconced in one of the bedrooms, it’s hard not to be inspired by Chambord, an architectural gem built by Francis I. Before or after the tour, enjoy a bike ride around the estate or a wander through the forest, before returning to enjoy the wellness area. End the day cuddled up in front of the fireplace at restaurant Le Grand Saint Michel.

2. The Château de Troussay

What if you had the luxury of actually sleeping in a Loire chateau? The Château de Troussay is known for being the smallest of all the Loire Valley chateaux. Situated in Cheverny, it may not compete with the eponymous local attraction, but it has its own fair share of decorative elements from prestigious local monuments, collected by former owner Louis de La Saussaye. Guests sleep in one of four suites in the chateau itself. And if ever your romantic getaway gives you ideas, Troussay also has a reception room available for weddings.

3. Les Sources de Cheverny

Keen on wine and wellbeing? This hotel should fit the bill. An offshoot of Bordeaux establishment Les Sources de Caudalie, Les Sources de Cheverny is nestled in the Loire vineyards, in a plantation of romorantin – the same grape as grown in Chambord. In a family country house atmosphere, you can enjoy the benefits of grapes in the two restaurants, fine-dining Le Favorite and the cosy Auberge, but also at the Spa des Sources which provides treatments using grape seed extracts from the Caudalie range. All that remains is to wait for the establishment to open in summer 2020.

While you wait for opening of the Sources de Cheverny, go to the Domaine des Hauts de Loire for a wellbeing break. You could say that this Relais & Châteaux, nestled in its 70-hectare park, takes the happiness of its guests very seriously – starting with its Clarins spa, where you can indulge in a couples’ massage with essential oils before sitting in the sauna and hammam. Extend the beauty prescription at Le Bistrot restaurant, which uses one of Clarins’ flagship ingredients, Shiso Vert, in its latest dessert! After lunch, take a refreshing stroll in the park to admire the monumental sculptures by Pierre Yermia – before long, it’ll be time for chef Rémy Giraud to take your breath away at the other on-site restaurant, two-Michelin-starred Les Hauts de Loire.
