The Domain of Cheverny

The Domain of Cheverny

A feudal estate that has belonged to the same family for more than six centuries, Domaine de Cheverny has always been inhabited. Each generation has passionately maintained and embellished it. Open to the public since 1922, Cheverny gives visitors an insight into all the pomp and ceremony and delicacies of château life. From the botanical garden to the splendid interiors, from the kennels to the Tintin exhibition and from the gardens to the forest, you are invited to discover a fantastic, authentic living heritage.

Renowned as the most magnificently furnished of all the Loire Châteaux, Cheverny boasts astonishingly rich decoration and variety of furniture. Its elegant forms inspired Hergé to create Marlinspike Hall, the famous home of Captain Haddock and headquarters for Tintin and his companions. The permanent exhibition ‘Les Secrets de Moulinsart’ plunges visitors into the adventures of the famous reporter.

Between the Château and the orangery, discover the ornamental garden. With its dazzling forms and colours, this contemporary garden is evocative of both the French formal garden with its geometrical structure, its flowerbeds and courts, and the informal English landscaped garden with the creative tableaux of light and colours which draw the eye beyond the pathways.

From April to November you can view the grounds of Château de Cheverny from aboard a boat or in an electric car. Float down the peaceful and gentle water, and admire the plant and animal life.
