This is the first exhibition to be dedicated to the work of an artist from a single year, and covers the period from 1 January to 31 December 1932. Running until 11 February 2018, it presents works that have an essential place in the career of Pablo Picasso, including The Dream (oil on canvas) on loan from a private collection, and many archive documents that provide context for the work created during 1932.
Would it possible to retrace a single year in the life of Pablo Picasso? It is that question that Picasso 1932 - Love, Fame, Tragedy organised in partnership with Tate Modern in London sets out to answer by inviting the viewer to follow a strictly chronological journey day by day through the artist’s output in this particularly fertile year. It questions the artist’s famous quotation “Painting is just another way of keeping a diary”, which underpins the idea of the simultaneity of life and creativity.
