Exhibition: ‘Jan Fabre - My Nation: The Imagination’ at the Maeght Foundation, Saint-Paul-de-Vence

From 30th June–11th November 2018, the Maeght Foundation, major cultural centre on the Côte d'Azur, is hosting an exhibition of sculptures and drawings by Belgian artist Jan Fabre.

Internationally renowned sculptor, draftsman, writer, director and choreographer, Jan Fabre is a ‘complete’ artist, a great heir of surrealism and Flemish Baroque style, and referenced in other arts from theatre to modern dance. Radical and always intriguing, he has designed a bespoke exhibition for the Maeght Foundation.

In this haven of greenery above the Côte d'Azur, the exhibition blends Fabre’s discoveries of artists with those from science and art history.

Echoing beauty

Spiritual and dreamlike, and both serious and humorous at the same time, ‘My Nation: The Imagination’ presents sculptures (mainly in white marble) alongside drawings and collages, focusing on thought processes and free association, dreams, and the imagination. The mind and the brain become characters that visitors explore via an elaborate scenography.

The work of Jan Fabre will echo the beauty of the Maeght Foundation itself, a must-see site on the French Riviera that the Belgian artist holds in high esteem, and whose permanent collection is open every day, all year round.
