"Eldorado" in Lille

France is looking to Mexico for the theme of the 5th edition for Lille3000. With the "Eldorado" event, the whole city is pulsing to a new rhythm of urban metamorphoses, between grand exhibitions and eclectic events. It's guaranteed to be a marvel!

The 5th edition of Lille3000, "Eldorado" will be celebrated from the spring until the fall of 2019. From April 27, 2019, more than 500 events will enliven the greater Lille area.

A full bill

The program is rich with numerous artists like Chinese visual artist Chen Zhen, graffiti artist SPAIK, French artist Julien Slaud, as well as names like Teresa Margolles, Qiu Zhijie, Adel Abdessemed, Kendell Geers, Mircea Cantor, Maria José Argenzio or Cynthia Gutierrez.

For the occasion, numerous cultural institutions will transform themselves in theme with El Dorado from April to December of 2019. Among them in Lille are le Tripostal, La Gare Saint-Sauveur, le Palais des Beaux-Arts, le Museum d'Histoire Naturelle and le musée de la Comtesse.

Outside of Lille proper, the list of associated sites grows longer: Le Colysée in Lambersart, La Corderie in Marcq-en-Baroeul, MUba Eugène Leroy in Tourcoing or le LaM in Villeneuve d'Ascq...

Chasing the legendary treasures and myths

At the origin of this major project lies the famous myth of the City of Gold. With "Eldorado," Lille puts on its finery to help demonstrate the stories of these coveted mythical lands in South America. Spun on the background of a hunt for mythical treasure, a legend nourished for nearly four centuries by conquistadors, Lille 300 looks back on these historical epochs and proposes parallels that question our contemporary history.

"Eldorado" is also presented as a great social project. The exhibitions and events hosted there explore all the riches in the world. The invited artists, like Chen Zhen does with his work Precipitous parturition demand visitors to consider the evolution of the world. In a shared and confederal environment, enterprises, artists, and citizens are encouraged to exchange and experiment with new models to see how to better live together.

Everyman's quest for the ideal

Lille3000 lost nothing in its dynamism in the same year that Lille was named European Capital of Culture. Invested in a mission resolutely turned towards innovation and the future, the event continues to question topics as eclectic as the economy and new technologies, the construction of the city of tomorrow, or the evolution of societies and of civilization.

This year, the emphasis has been placed on the different migratory patterns of populations, leading to the creation of a better world, as illustrated in the marvelous illustration, Hope, by Adel Abdessemed. We're more than eager to discover this new "El Dorado, an ideal quest for everyone to discover!"
