Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival

The International Garden Festival at Chaumont-sur-Loire offers a multitude of surprises and new plant-based creations to its visitors. The 29th edition will take place from May 16 to November 1, 2020 on the theme of "Gardens of the Earth, return to Mother Earth".

Less than 200km from Paris between Tours and Blois, lies a natural oasis perched 40 metres above the wild River Loire: the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire. The doors to its chateau and surrounding park are open all year round, but the arguable star of the calendar is the garden festival from April to November, bursting with plant curiosities including some rare species, and unusual blooms usually considered unobtainable.

Return to Mother Earth

In 2020, the festival was forced to postpone its opening, due to the health crisis. But, it has been rescheduled, and will take place from May 16 to November 1, 2020 on the theme "Gardens of the Earth, return to Mother Earth".
The celebration intends to honor the symbolic and mythological power of Mother Earth, also called Gaïa, the goddess personifying fertile and fruitful land. The creators of the gardens have proposed ambitious, positive and original creations along this theme.

Twenty-four international teams were selected by the jury for this edition and five "green cards" were given to special guests. In total, 30 new installations have been created to explore around an incredibly ecological theme!

The creators have competed with their own imaginations to offer innovative, contemporary, inspiring works as well as spectacular productions, like the slow fall of trees with green crowns, the sphere immersed in a mirror of water, or a scene from the garden of Gaïa, somewhat overgrown with colored plastic stoppers.

New structures and forms have been created, such as the setting up of a plot in a plot or the integration of "sticks of life". They must be seen to be understood.

On the novelties side, visitors will be able to discover an “alley of clematis”, a “garden of taste”, a “mandala garden” and a “garden of good practices” linked to this year's theme.
