Cannes Film Festival

It's the must-see event on the Côte d'Azur, taking place every year on the Croisette in the summer months. The International Film Festival, the world's most prestigious film festival, is packed with new films, new talent and glamour. The 77th edition will be held from 14 to 25 May 2024.

Created on the initiative of Jean Zay - Minister of Fine Arts at the time - the first edition of the International Film Festival took place on 20 September 1946.

From 1952 onwards, the Cannes Festival became the annual meeting place of the film world, with the ascent of the steps of the Palais des Festival as a symbol.

The Palme d'Or, the supreme prize awarded by the jury, takes its symbolism from the arms of the city of Cannes.

A festival of reference, many directors have come to present films that have left their mark on the memory, such as Fellini, Bergman, Buñuel or Coppola... Others still have made a name for themselves there, such as Tarantino, Cronenberg, Lars von Trier...

A look back at the 76th edition

With the resurgence of the film industry, Swedish director Ruben Östlund presided over the jury for the 2023 edition.

21 films were in competition this year, including Asteroid CIty by Wes Anderson, The Zone of Interest by Jonathan Glazer and The Old Oak by British director Ken Loach.
The Palme d'Or was finally awarded to Anatomy of a Fall by French director Justine Triet, whose film Victoria had been nominated 5 times at the 2017 Césars.

The Un certain regard selection, which celebrates young auteur cinema, was chaired by American filmmaker John C. Reilly and awarded How to have sex by Molly Manning Walker.
