The festival’s public events include film and documentary screenings, an art residency, an intimate jazz concert, a Fragonard perfume masterclass and a student exchange with Villa Arson in Nice, all at the Institut Français in South Kensington, London.
The pulse of the Côte d’Azur races year round. From Cannes to Menton via Antibes and Nice, this glamorous, sun-soaked French destination enjoys global renown for its events and festivals as well as its Mediterranean lifestyle, scenery, culture and sporting activities. Admire the vivid blue of the sea that laps the coves, islands and golden beaches: it’s a stunning natural colour chart that inspired some of the greatest painters of the 20th century. The Riviera is also glittering with world-class events and festivals – and the warm hues of its villages and gardens give it an inimitable holiday atmosphere, bolstered by the famous scents of its hinterland.
Considered the capital of the Côte d’Azur, dynamic and colourful Nice is one of the most popular destinations for a city break in France, combining history and culture with mouth-watering cuisine and a sweeping bay of turquoise sea. Get lost in the ramshackle, honey-hued Old Town (‘Vieux Nice’) and pause to buy fruit and flowers at the Cours Saleya, visit world-class art galleries, paddle from the pebbly beach, and climb up to the lush green Colline du Château for the best views over the city’s red-tiled rooftops.
Headquarters of the international film festival each May, Cannes keeps its star power shining all year long with designer boutiques, supercars and yachts. Its trend-setting image is at the forefront but it also has preserved heritage and traditions, and an authenticity away from the main thoroughfares. Day trips by boat to the Lérins islands – Ile Saint-Honorat and Ile Sainte-Marguérite – are unforgettable. Antibes-Juan Les Pins is inextricably linked to Picasso, its ramparts home to the eponymous museum. Enjoy admiring Art-Deco architecture in Juan-les-Pins and consider visiting for the two-week international jazz festival in July.
Squeezed between the Principality of Monaco and Italy and boasting its own microclimate, Menton is a gardener's paradise. Stroll the gardens of Fontana Rosa, Maria Serena Villa and Val Rahmeh and dip into the Citronneraie (lemon grove), where most of the citrus fruits used to adorn the town during February’s Lemon Festival are grown.
