French art de vivre on the big screen

The Côte d’Azur is the setting for meals with friends in Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi’s film ‘The Summer House’

As part of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, UniFrance and France.fr present three compilation clips of scenes from French cinema. Part of the series ‘Love French films? Now live them!’, here we address art de vivre (the art of living) and discover the diverse regions of France and their pleasures: sun, vineyards, cooking, walks. It’s not just about cinema.

The French way of life flourishes on the big screen. In French films, characters cook, take their time, bask in the sun, contemplate the rain falling softly on the vines, walk with hair blowing in the wind… these scenes are all inspired by the landscapes, savoir-faire and terroirs of France.

Everyone wants to copy Guillaume Canet and his group of friends as they walk by the Atlantic around the Bassin d’Arcachon; or Isabelle Huppert, seated in a bistro, who exclaims “on commande?” as if it were a question of life or death; or Gerard Depardieu and Benoit Poulevoorde laughing loudly before casting a spell for the best wines (unless it’s the other way around)…

Between the Alps and Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Atlantic coast, the Riviera and Provence… French art de vivre is a bit of everything. And it’s not just about cinema.
