Hard Rock Café Marseille is now open!
A new Hard Rock Café, "Made in Marseille" opened in the southern French city, on November 30, 2014. The global brand, which has restaurants in 55 countries, is making its own mark on the Mediterranean coast, combining the modern with the ancient in the dynamic, multicultural port city that is Marseille.
Former royal bakeries
Bringing together all that is unique, rebellious and "rock and roll" in the city, Hard Rock Café Marseille is 1900m2 and can seat 350.
Located close to the Old Port, where the former royal bakeries under Louis XIV stood, this Hard Rock Café is the third in France, following restaurants in Paris and Nice.
Mixing culinary traditions
Cuisine wise, the US brand's meals evoke the culinary and cultural traditions of the American South of Uncle Sam. The chain also serves food using typical Mediterranean recipes.
How did Hard Rock Café become so successful? Dining with a musical theme. 77 000 items of memorabilia donated by artists (stage clothes, musical instruments, celebrity clothing and never before seen posters...) already cover the walls of Hard Rock Cafés worldwide.
In Marseille, 152 items are on display in honour of Rock and Roll stars, like:
- The Michael Jackson's jacket.
- The Rolling Stone Keith Richards cape
- The AC / DC guitarist Angus Young instrument
- A unique piece of Rihanna
How it all began
It was in London, 1971: Peter Morton and Isaac Tigre C, two young American music fans, opened the first Hard Rock Café. Their aim? To establish a cosy restaurant perfect for rock'n'roll fans, wherever they come from.
