What is Intangible Cultural Heritage?

The term cultural heritage can refer to much more than just monuments and collections of objects. It also includes traditions and living expressions which we have inherited from our ancestors and which we pass on to our descendants.

These can include:

  • oral traditions
  • performing arts
  • social customs
  • rituals and festive celebrations
  • knowledge and customs concerning nature and the universe
  • knowledge and expertise relating to traditional arts and crafts
