- International Competition for Culinary Photography - Mid September 2013
More than ever, the worlds of cooking and images need to get together. Difficult, indeed, today, when we are a cook or a gastronomic journalist, to imagine being able to communicate on our trade without using an incomparable tool: culinary photography. Since the emergence of the nouvelle cuisine in the early 1970s, chefs have never been as starred and their communication as intense: not a single magazine that now has it gastronomic column, or culinary blogs on the Internet have ever been as numerous and illustrated with culinary photos as since the democratization of digital cameras, whilst, still more recently, editors have never published and sold cookery books to such an extent. The dimension of the photo is obviously very important. It is time to pay tribute to these pairs of magicians who are photographers and chefs. It is in Oloron Sainte-Marie, city of the famous master chocolate maker Lindt & Sprüngli, that the International Competition of Culinary Photography is held.
Original and unique of its kind, this competition in September will match up twenty teams, each consisting of a chef and a photographer for making an original photo, judged by a panel of journalists, publishers, stylists, photographers and gourmet cooks. The contest is part of the "European days of gastronomy" which are now held every two years with other trials like the Road Food Movie and the international contest of blog photos.
