The Lot Valley was named after the River Lot which runs through 5 departments situated from the far south west of France to the beginning of the middle south east of France. Two of these departments are named after the Lot River.

The Lot Rivers source is 1,214m high north of the mount Lozère arriving at 29m in La Garonne at Aiguillon after a 481km track.
