The EDEN competition

Created by the European Commission to support the tourism industry, the purpose of the EDEN competition is to encourage the development models of sustainable tourism throughout the European Union, under which national competitions are held annually and lead to the selection of "European Destinations of Excellence" in each participating country.

France now has an EDEN national network of 18 tourist destinations of excellence, all selected and awarded within the framework of the European EDEN competition around precisely defined themes.

This network perfectly illustrates the priority given to enhance the areas less well known than some traditional holiday places, already overcrowded. These destinations aspire to maintain a harmonious tourism development, combining economic growth and sustainable development, thus bringing strong authenticity to French tourism. They offer visitors the opportunity to getting a better experience of local culture and traditions and live memorable experiences through the diversity of their hidden wealth.
