Situated on Normandy’s Calvados coast, Cabourg is associated with many great names. When Henri Durand-Morimbau first discovered Cabourg with its beautiful sand dunes in 1853, he nicknamed it “Reine des Plages” (‘Queen of Beaches’). The town’s original fan-shaped architectural plan was drawn by Paul Leroux, and Marcel Proust fell in love with it when he stayed at the Grand Hotel and wrote his masterpiece In Search of Lost Time.

Cabourg is quite unique, representing an ideal balance between the charm of a traditional seaside resort and the buzz associated with a bigger town. Feast your eyes on Cabourg's assets: its Belle-Époque villas and Anglo-Norman mansions; its colourful flowerbeds that have afforded it a Ville Fleurie label; and its glorious sands stretching over two and a half miles. The latter are ideal for all manner of beach sports, while a wonderful broad pedestrian promenade runs along above them.

If you’re visiting with your loved one, consider booking your trip for June when Cabourg hosts a Romantic Film Festival. At the same time you can treat yourself to relaxing thalassotherapy in one of the dedicated centres, or horse-ride on the beach at sunset before dinner on the promenade. A selection of appealing thematic routes, clearly signposted, allow both couples and families to experience Cabourg and soak up its rich Norman Heritage.
