Rendez-vous at the Cloister of Puy-en-Velay Cathedral
Romanesque cloister and art collection
Sheltered at the side of the cathedral in Le Puy-en-Velay (Auvergne), the Romanesque cloister is famous for its colourful arcades. Its 12th century gate is a rare example of ironwork from the Romanesque era.
A space for contemplation, the cloister now features capitals, which offer an occasional touch of humour. In the chapter house, an 18th century fresco represents the crucifixion.
The tour also includes the Museum of Religious Art, situated in the machicolation building.
